Tim ‘Rawbiz’ Williams, known best for his skills as a bassist, drummer and producer, has died.

Williams most recently had played bass for thrash metal act Suicidal Tendencies, who released the news via a post on Facebook.

“It’s with complete sadness that we have to announce the passing of bassist Tim ‘Rawbiz’ Williams,” the Facebook post read. “Tim played bass for Suicidal Tendencies for almost four years until recently.

“Tim was a monster on bass, running around on stage in the pit, giving his all, even when his body wasn’t at its best. We will always remember him and appreciate all the kind words by those that were touched by his bass playing and him personally.”

Williams contributed bass to a song on Suicidal Tendencies’ most recent album 13 and had also played with Boyz II Men and Toni Braxton, among others.

A cause of death has not been confirmed.

99Rock Music News:  The Killers’ Brandon Flowers Plans to Release Second Solo Album Next Year

Open up your eager eyes: Mr. Brightside is coming back with his second solo release.

Brandon Flowers, frontman of The Killers, announced today (Aug. 27) he’ll release his sophomore solo album in 2015, NME reports.

Little is known about the album so far, but Flowers did reveal that he’s working withproducer Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend’s Modern Vampires of the City, Sky Ferreira’s Night Time, My Time) for it, as well as the band HAIM. The latter’s Danielle Haim sat in with the band on drums during a recent show.
“He’s taking me out of my comfort zone,” Flowers said of Rechtshaid. “Normally I make demos and they’re pretty similar to how the song ends up. but he’ll take a song and be like, ‘I hear this’. It’s incredible — his palette and his range, what he’s able to say. At first we were butting our heads together, but now we’re hitting it off.”

99Rock Music News:  Gerard Way Books First-Ever Solo Tour Across U.S.

For those still reeling from My Chemical Romance‘s split in 2013, this year has eased the pain with the announcement of frontman Gerard Way‘s first ever solo album, Hesitant Alien, due on September 30 via Warner Brothers.

And, that’s not all. Following performances at last weekend’s Leeds and Reading Music Festivals in the UK, Gerard Way has announced a batch of U.S. shows in support of the eight-song collection. This is Way’s first ever solo tour of America.

The trek isn’t long. Way will be playing intimate venues in only San Francisco, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, New York and Sayreville, N.J. Should that last location seem strange, remember that My Chemical Romance hailed from Jersey city and Way was raised in Belleville.

In a press release, Way describes the new solo material’s influences. “I looked to Britpop poets like Jarvis Cocker and Damon Albarn, drawing upon everyday life. I also experimented with the abstract, and looked at Frank Black’s work both with the Pixies, and as a solo artist. There was no concept and no call-to-arms.”

The tour dates are listed below, with ticket information available on Way’s Facebook.

Gerard Way 2014 tour dates:
10/12 — San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore
10/13 — Los Angeles, CA @ Troubadour
10/14 — Los Angeles, CA @ Fonda Theatre
10/17 — Philadelphia, PA @ Trocadero Theatre
10/19 — Boston, MA @ Paradise Rock Club
10/20 — New York, NY @ Irving Plaza
10/22 — Sayreville, NJ @ Starland Ballroom
10/23 — New York, NY @ Webster Hall

99Rock Music News:  Weezer Delays New Album, Shares ‘Everything Will Be Alright in the End’ Tracklist

(Photo by Theo Wargo/Getty Images for Firefly Music Festival)

Two things happened overnight for Weezer fans. One’s pretty solid; the other, not so much.

The band announced on their Facebook page that the release date of new album Everything Will Be Alright in the End has been pushed back from Sept. 30 to Oct. 7, one week later. Weezer did not give a reason for the delay, but noted that it was a “bummer” it had to happen, despite, by their reports, finishing the album on time.
To try to make up for the delay, the band revealed that a track from the new album would be given on the original release date to those who had pre-ordered the record. No word on which song that will be.

Additionally, according to Exclaim, the band released the tracklist for Everything Will Be Alright in the End.

The album will feature 11 songs, including lead single “Back to the Shack.” The final song, “The Futurescope Trilogy,” is listed in three parts: “The Waste Land,” “Anonymous” and “Return to Ithaca.”

99Rock Music News:  NFL Asks Coldplay, Katy Perry & Rihanna to Pay to Play 2015 Super Bowl Halftime Show

For most bands, the Super Bowl halftime show is pretty much the best gig on earth.

It would be easy to assume that artists are awarded big bucks for scoring that coveted slot, but not exactly. In fact, the three artists in the running for the 2015 Super Bowl are being asked to pay the NFL for the right to perform their music during what is usually the biggest TV broadcast of the year, much like the high-profile (and expensive) commercials that often generate as much interest as the game itself (the 2014 Super Bowl earned 111.5  million viewers in the U.S. alone).

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the considered acts for this season’s Super Bowl are being asked “if they would be willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financialcontribution, in exchange for the halftime gig.”

99Rock Music News:  Foo Fighters Reenact ‘Carrie’ for ALS Ice Bucket Challenge: [Watch]

By Jay Tilles (courtesy radio.com)

Dave Grohl has taken the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to a whole new level.

With the help of his fellow Foo Fighters and a little movie magic, Grohl takes on the role of Carrie White, from the classic horror movie Carrie based on Stephen King’s first novel.

But before embarking on the cinematic role of a lifetime, Dave Grohl passes the challenge along to Jack Black, John Travolta (who played a supporting role in the original film) and appropriately enough, King himself.

The Foos’ three-minute remake finds Grohl playing Sissy Spacek’s prom queen character from the 1976 film, with drummer Taylor Hawkins filling the roll of the prom king in order to reenact the movie’s pivotal scene when a reprehensible prank is pulled on Carrie (Spacek’s character). Gallons of blood are poured over her head in order to embarrass the teenager.

Pat Smear and Nate Mendel assist in the prank, hiding behind the curtain, letting go of the ice bucket just at the right moment.
Grohl’s footage is brilliantly cut together with shots from the original film.

99Rock Music News:  The Killers Turn Iggy Azalea’s ‘Fancy’ Into Piano Ballad [Watch]

By Shannon Carlin (courtesy radio.com)

At a recent show in England, The Killers gave fans a taste of something they’ve been working on. No, it wasn’t a new original song, it was their piano cover of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” complete with a few finger wagging interpretive dance moves done by none other than the Las Vegas band’s drummer, Ronnie Vannucci.

Their more somber take even featured a little lyrical switcheroo as Flowers sang, “From Vegas to Staffordshire” instead of “L.A. to Tokyo.” The few second cover ended with Vannucci stretched out on the floor underneath Flower’s lightening bolt keyboard.

“What do you think?” Flowers asked. “I think it’s a hit.”

99Rock Music News:  Foo Fighters Announcing Something Big on Monday

(Photo by Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images)

By Philip Cosores

Yeah, announcements of announcements are inherently lame. Like, just announce what you want to announce already?

But, with bands of a certain stature, the announcement of the announcement has become a part of the tradition. So, the Foo Fighters posting on Facebook that Monday will see big news is just part of the game. So let’s play!

At this point, we know Foo Fighters have a new album coming. It is expected in November, in fact. We also know that there will be an HBO series chronicling the creation of their 8th studio LP, and it will make its premiere on October 17, titled Sonic Highways.

The most obvious speculation for what will be announced will be the album title and release date. But, it could also be a fall tour. The release timeframe would also make sense with corresponding radio station Christmas events, but those announcements usually come way later.
