99Rock Music News:  Hear The Black Keys’ New Song ‘Fever’

Courtesy Warner Bros

By Staff

Ohio rockers the Black Keys have released “Fever,” the band’s first new  song in almost three years.

The new song follows last week’s promotional blitz that included the announcement of upcoming album, Turn Blue, via a tweet from boxing  legend Mike Tyson that pointed fans towards a bizarre commercial campaign. The full-length is due to drop on May 13.

The catchy and melodic tune features a keyboard line that’s destined to get stuck in countless heads and an urgent vocal from frontman Dan Auerbach. It is also very clearly produced by Danger Mouse.

99Rock Music News:  Don't Over-Think It!  Here are 20 Monster Hit Songs That Were Written In Just Minutes

(Courtesy - VH1)

By Jordan Runtagh -

Everyone has that masterpiece they’ve been slaving away on for years. It’s your baby, your passion, your tour de force, and you won’t let ANYONE see it until you get it totally perfect! Well, be prepared to get super bummed out, because some of the biggest hits in music were written in less time than the average coffee break!

It’s really true that the best ideas often are the simplest. Some great songs were written off-the-cuff as favors, jokes and afterthoughts, while others were penned around riffs that just happened to fall out of a guitar during a jam session. In any event, the legacy of these tunes have continued to live on for decades! Talk about working smarter and not harder. So let this be a lesson to all of you songwriters out there: Don’t over-think it. Just look at these beloved classics that were tossed off in minutes!

(Courtesy - Pitchfork)

By Molly Beauchemin -

The Black Keys will release a new song, "Fever"-- their first new single since 2011's El Camino-- on Monday March 24, Revolt reports.

In the time since El Camino's release, the Black Keys have stayed busy. Dan Auerbach, as previously reported, is working on Lana Del Rey's forthcoming record, Ultraviolence. He's also worked with JEFF the Brotherhood and Ray LaMontagne, in addition to winning a Grammy for Producer of the Year (Non-Classical) in 2013.

Patrick Carney, meanwhile, produced Tennis' Young and Old, and co-produced the Black Lips' recent album, Underneath the Rainbow. He and Auerbach also toured with the Flaming Lips, hung out on "The Colbert Report", and recently performed at the soon-to-close Roseland Ballroom in honor of Super Bowl XLVIII.

The Black Keys won three Grammys in 2013: two for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for "Lonely Boy", and one for Best Rock Album for El Camino.

No further album plans have been announced at this time.

99Rock Music News:  Kurt Cobain’s Death Reopened Then Closed By Seattle Police

(Photo Courtesy - Frank Micelotta/Getty Images)

By Scott T. Sterling

In a shocking turn of events, Seattle police have re-opened the case surrounding the 1994 death ofNirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain.

According to KIRO 7, the reason behind the new look at the case revolves around four rolls of camera film that sat undeveloped in a police evidence vault until recently. After developing and looking at the images, Seattle police said “they more clearly show the scene than the earlier Polaroid photos taken by investigators.”

The station has obtained one of the new images, which they plan on broadcasting later tonight (March 20) on the 11 p.m. newscast. There will also be an interview with the detective re-examining the case who will discuss new details and “the various alternate theories that have developed since Cobain’s death.”

99Rock Music News:  Did Courtney Love Find The Missing Malaysian Plane?

Courtney Love (Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

By Nadia Noir

Everyone is searching for that mysteriously missing Malaysian plane that disappeared on March 8th, including social media mayhem-maker Courtney Love.

The mouthy rocker is renowned for voicing her opinion on anything and everything via social media and this time around, she might have clues to where Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has tragically fallen.

Referencing the site Tomnod for satellite imagery, Love tagged a picture of what looks like an empty ocean with Microsoft Paint words that say “oil” and “plane.”

“I’m no expert but up close this does look like a plane and an oil slick,” said Love in her post. “Prayers go out to the families #MH370 and its [sic] like a mile away Pulau Perak, where they ‘last’ tracked it 5°39’08.5″N 98°50’38.0″E but what do I know?” Check out the picture on Facebook.

While she’s not admitting that she knows where the plane is exactly, it would be one of the most incredible things that ever happened to mankind if Love, of all people in the world, was the person who actually found the plane.

Weirder things have happened.

99Rock Music News:  Watch CHVRCHES Cover Lorde’s ‘Team’

By Shannon Carlin

Yesterday (March 10), CHVRCHES took the BBC Live Lounge stage to add a little experience to Lorde’syouthful pop song “Team.”

While Lorde sounds wise beyond her years on the track off her 2013 debut, Pure Heroine, CHVRCHES singer Lauren Mayberry sounds like someone who’s been there done that. Sweetly singing, ”I’m kind of tired of getting told to throw my hands up in the air. So there.”

When it comes to who CHVRCHES would like to see cover their song “Recover” off their 2013 debut, The Bones of What You Believe, they said it’s a toss up between Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins, Cat Power and Tegan and Sara.

99Rock EXTRA:  Kevin Bacon Explains The ’80s To Millenials

“Two-time Saturn Award nominee” Kevin Bacon has a few words for Millenials, or those of us born after 1985.

“Awareness of 80s culture and technology has been in a significant decline, especially amongst a certain demographic,” he says in the opening of the video.

Bacon explains times of asking girls out by using the white pages, calling her, making small talk with hermom , and not being able to “swipe away the hurt” if you get rejected.

Bacon’s favorite app? A Rubik’s Cube. And if you think Russia is a threat now, he reminds you of a little thing called The Cold War… where “they had nukes pointing at us for 20 years. You couldn’t even skateboard to a Blockbuster without getting nuked.”

RIP to Kevin’s friend, Tommy, who went out to rent a copy of Gremlins and never came back.
