As part of a tribute to the late guitarist Randy Rhoads, titled Immortal Randy Rhoads – The Ultimate Tribute, Tom Morello and Serj Tankian have covered one of the most recognizable songs in rock, Ozzy Osbourne‘s “Crazy Train,” co-written by Rhoads.

“Randy Rhoads is my favorite guitar player of all time,” Morello told Rolling Stone. “It was his poster on my wall when I was practicing eight hours a day, and I named my firstborn son, Rhoads, after him. Serj, Rudy, Vinny and I rocked ‘Crazy Train’ as a sonic tribute to one of rock’s greatest fallen heroes. Crank it.”

Rhoads’ first band, Quiet Riot, got the attention of Osbourne, who plucked him out of relative obscurity to join his band Blizzard of Oz.

Considered a virtuoso by fellow musician, the young guitar player went on to co-write songs for two of Osbourne’s most popular albums, Blizzard Of Oz and Diary of A Madman.

Rhodes died in a plane accident on March 19, 1982. He was only 25 years old.

In addition to the album, the package will contain a bonus DVD, including a feature on the Musonia School of Music, a teaching school on North Hollywood, Calif., set up by Randy’s mother and run by his brother Kelle Rhoads.

Featuring 20 artists, Immortal Randy Rhoads – The Ultimate Tribute will be released on March 13 by UDR Music.
