Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ always animated bassist Flea has been keeping busy in recent years; outside of the Chili Peppers, he has also collaborated with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke in Atoms for Peace, Blur’s Damon Albarn in Rocket Juice & The Moon. But he’s also been spending some time writing: he’s currently working on his memoirs.

According to Grand Central Publishing, who acquired the rights to Flea’s story, the self-written memoir will detail the bassist’s move from a “normal” upbringing in the suburbs of New York to Los Angeles, where he lived a bohemian life with his jazz musician stepfather.

In the book, Flea will also detail his “sometimes complex friendship” and collaboration with RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis, his drug use and give a closer look at the over 30 year career of RHCP.

“Grand Central is thrilled to publish Flea’s memoir,” said Ben Greenberg, the company’s Executive Editor. “Besides being a voracious reader, he is an utterly unique musician, thinker, and creative force—whether with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Atoms for Peace, or his Silverlake Conservatory which fosters music education in Los Angeles. His story is epic.”
