For those still reeling from My Chemical Romance‘s split in 2013, this year has eased the pain with the announcement of frontman Gerard Way‘s first ever solo album, Hesitant Alien, due on September 30 via Warner Brothers.

And, that’s not all. Following performances at last weekend’s Leeds and Reading Music Festivals in the UK, Gerard Way has announced a batch of U.S. shows in support of the eight-song collection. This is Way’s first ever solo tour of America.

The trek isn’t long. Way will be playing intimate venues in only San Francisco, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, New York and Sayreville, N.J. Should that last location seem strange, remember that My Chemical Romance hailed from Jersey city and Way was raised in Belleville.

In a press release, Way describes the new solo material’s influences. “I looked to Britpop poets like Jarvis Cocker and Damon Albarn, drawing upon everyday life. I also experimented with the abstract, and looked at Frank Black’s work both with the Pixies, and as a solo artist. There was no concept and no call-to-arms.”

The tour dates are listed below, with ticket information available on Way’s Facebook.
