Quick: have you ever seen Red Hot Chili Peppersdrummer Chad Smith and actor Will Ferrell in the same room together?

The almost uncanny resemblance between the rock star and the funnyman is a well-documented and long-running joke, with the internet  rife with memes highlighting their twin status.

During a freewheeling Reddit AMA session, the man behind fictional San Diego newsman Ron Burgundy addressed his similitude to the drummer for the Chili Peppers, who are still facing down a firestorm of controversy following the band’s performance with Bruno Mars at Super Bowl XLVIII after it was revealed to be in large part pre-recorded.

“It has been acknowledged many times that myself and Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers , share a resemblance to each other,” Farrell stated during the session, tongue planted firmly in cheek. “A lot of people think that it’s me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith.”

Among the fans lobbing questions at Ferrell during the AMA was Snoop Dogg, who hit up the comedian to bring “some more cowbell on tha next album.”

Ferrell rolled with Snoop’s joke, adding, “I’ve also got some beats that I want to run by you. I’m warning you now, they’re not good. In fact, I just talked myself out of it. I’m not going to show them to you.”
